Book Review: Huntress of Thornbeck Forest

The Huntress of Thornbeck Forest. Melanie Dickerson. 2015. Thomas Nelson. 306 pages. [Source: Library]

First sentence: The tip of the arrow found its mark, a perfect shot through the deer's heart and lungs.

Premise/plot: Odette Menkels, the heroine in this medieval fairytale, is a poacher. She breaks the law of the land for a good cause, she reasons, her kills help feed hungry, starving, peasant children. But when she starts to fall head-over-heels in love with the forester, the man responsible for CATCHING all poachers on the margrave's lands, well, things get complicated. Jorgen Hartman is all kinds of wonderful, and, she hates keeping the truth from him. But it turns out that she isn't the only one with a secret...

My thoughts: Loved this one! The book is set in Europe in the 1300s, 1363 to be exact, and I love it. I'm not sure I *loved* this time period before Dickerson started writing fairy-tale like historical romances. But I sure do love it now. She's a great writer!
