Book Review: Defying ISIS

Defying ISIS: Preserving Christianity in the Place of Its Birth and In Your Own Backyard. Johnnie Moore. 2015. Thomas Nelson. 176 pages. [Source: Review copy]

Johnnie Moore's Defying Isis consists of three sections. The first section focuses on "What ISIS Is Doing." Readers learn what ISIS is doing in Syria and Iraq to Christian believers (and some Muslims). What they are doing to pastors, men, women, and children. How Christians are fleeing and living in refugee camps. The second section focuses on "Why ISIS Matters To You." Moore emphasizes that the threat of persecution and the danger ISIS poses isn't just a problem for believers in the Middle East in countries with large Muslim populations. The threat is global because ISIS is global. The third and final section is "What We Are Losing." The final two sections is packed with historical information on the Middle East and the rich history that Christianity has had in the region.

The book is, without a doubt, informative. It is packed with information. And, I believe the primary focus is to inform and educate readers. In some ways, it is easy to compare this one with the recently published book, Killing Christians: Living the Faith Where It's Not Safe to Believe. Both books are published by Thomas Nelson. Both books are 2015 releases. If I had to choose between the two, I'd probably choose Killing Christians. I liked the focus on personal stories. It was the more compelling read.
